Pepe Mel: 'Despite the errors, Betis ended up struggling'

The UD Almería head coach regretted having 'given the Verdiblancos the option of taking the lead,' but he was grateful for the performance of his team: 'My players gave everything and have shown pride and football skills'

'We've shown pride and Real Betis ended up struggling towards the end of the match, but the defensive mistakes condemned us, from the midfield up we've played a great game,' stressed Pepe Mel at the post-Betis press conference following UD Almería's defeat against the Verdiblancos. 'We've started by giving them the option to put themselves in front,' he added.

The Rojiblancos' gaffer emphasised: 'The games I've won have been by keeping a clean sheet,' although he also wanted to thank his team for their courage and highlighted that 'despite that, today we showed football skills and pride and we had options to tie.'

From the outside, UD Almería continue to be seen as a team with great players that is always putting their adversaries in trouble, in addition to the lack of logic of the season they have had. Given this fact, the Indálicos' gaffer stressed: 'There's no explanation for the team's situation. We have quality and youth with the addition of Marcos Peña.'

Although the Madrid-born coach once again highlighted the huge effort of his team: 'I'm happy with my players, because they give everything.'

To bring his press conference to an end, Mr Mel wanted to express his gratitude to the Béticos' fans for the warm and affectionate treatment with which they have welcomed him: 'I really notice the affection of the Béticos, they show it to me every day, I've spent 11 years here. The crowd loves me because I'm one of them.'
