Pepe Mel delivers his first football practice at the Power Horse Stadium

The newly appointed UD Almería head coach delivers his first training session in the Stadium in order to prepare for Sunday's match against one of the teams he has been coaching the longest, UD Las Palmas

Pepe Mel has already assumed command at UD Almería and after the first meeting with the squad last Wednesday evening, this Thursday, he has begun to prepare for the match that will see him debuting on the Rojiblancos' dugout. It will be a match that the newly appointed head coach will face against one of the teams he has coached the longest in his career, UD Las Palmas.

The Madrid-born head coach wants his players to have possession of the ball and be well aware of the idea that without commitment or hard work, positive results cannot be achieved. He perfectly knows that the situation is more than complicated and empathise with them by showing them his support, pep talks… A double task in sports and psychologically. The session, held at the Power Horse Stadium, was conducted with plenty of drills to turn possession into goals.

Mr Mel has already been giving instructions to his players in a bid to try to get the most out of them as individuals and as a team despite the short time he has to get the the team match ready on Sunday at the Gran Canaria Stadium.

For this league appointment, Edgar and Lopy, in addition to Luis Suárez, due to injury, will miss out, without forgetting that Koné has spent five months on the treatment table. On a good note, Bruno Langa is available once he served his one-game ban -after being sent off in Vigo- against Sevilla FC last Sunday.

There are two more football practices ahead this Friday and Saturday before jetting off to the capital city of Gran Canaria.

Pepe Mel has an extensive career as a head coach and UD Las Palmas are one of the teams in which he has been at the helm the longest, leading them in more than 100 games. During his stage, he coached young talents who are now pro footballers such as Valles, Coco, Cardona, MoleiroKirian... and even Pedri, currently playing for FC Barcelona. The UD Almería's new gaffer knows UD Las Palmas perfectly, but they also know the Madrid-born's coaching style.
