Rubi: 'Matches like this confirm that we're united and clear about what we want'
The UD Almería head coach, who watched the match from a private box, praised the classy performance put on by his team and believes: 'We must value it because we took on in-form Racing Santander, who couldn't really use their weapons at any point.'
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' shared his post-match thoughts on the 2-0 vital victory over Racing de Santander. 'We've been talking for weeks about how we have to try to finish like this; inspiring these feelings for the fans and so that the team feel convinced that if we get into the play-offs, it'll be difficult for them to kick us out.'
The head coach believes: 'We felt like we didn't suffer much defensively. We must value it since we faced rivals who couldn't really use their weapons at any point. This means that when the team are fully committed, both in attack and defence, we're not as easy as it's sometimes seemed.'
The Catalan considers the issue of team unity to be definitively resolved. 'It's been a constant struggle in all areas. We've been trying to forge ties. I don't think we need to worry about this anymore. We're united, we're clear about what we want and games like today's corroborate that,' he explained.
Finally, the Catalan gaffer shared how he felt watching the match from the box due to the suspension imposed at the Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium last week: 'I reckon I was even less nervous. I saw the team so focused and committed... The only thing that worried us a bit more was Melero's substitution, but otherwise I was calm and enjoying myself.'
