UD Almería return to training ahead of the penultimate match week of the regular season, with promotion hopes still alive as the race for LaLiga EA Sports reaches a dramatic finale

UD Almería returned to training on Tuesday as preparations began for the penultimate fixture of the regular season in LaLiga Hypermotion. After a recovery session on Sunday and a day off on Monday, the squad resumed work behind closed doors in the afernoon, turning full attention to Sunday’s trip to face Sporting de Gijón at El Molinón.

Head coach Rubi welcomes back key midfielder Dion Lopy after suspension, but will be without Bruno Bonifacio, sent off against UD Las Palmas and Marcos Luna, who misses out through yellow-card accumulation.

With 2 games left and Racing de Santander already promoted, the second automatic promotion spot and the play-off match-ups remain undecided. The race at both ends of the table is still wide open.

UD Almería’s surprise defeat to Las Palmas was a setback in the push for automatic promotion, but the opportunity remains. They must win in Gijón and hope Deportivo de La Coruña fail to take all 3 points away to Real Valladolid.

Interestingly, a UD Las Palmas win this weekend could also help the Rojiblancos. It would leave the island side with a chance of direct promotion heading into the final day, when they travel to La Coruña, a situation UD Almería could benefit from if they win their final home match.

For now, the squad’s only focus is arriving at El Molinón stadium ready to deliver. But with so much still to be decided, UD Almería know their fate may depend on more than just their own result.
