The UD Almería defender sustained the injury following an accidental collision in training and underwent successful surgery to realign the fracture
UD Almería defender Chumi sustained an accidental blow to the face during Tuesday afternoon's training session, resulting in a fracture of the nasal bones.
The incident occurred during a defensive challenge as Chumi and a team-mate contested the ball. Following the impact, the centre-back immediately received medical attention on the pitch before being taken to Vithas Almería Hospital for further assessment.
After undergoing specialist diagnostic tests on Wednesday, the fracture was confirmed and successfully treated with surgery to realign the nasal bones.
Chumi has now begun his recovery process. He will attend a follow-up appointment with the maxillofacial surgeon next week and will wear a protective splint in the meantime to aid the healing process. Once he resumes training, the players will initially do so wearing a custom-made protective face mask. His return to action will depend on his recovery and progress over the coming weeks.
