Pacheco: 'We have to be ambitious but, with our feet on the ground'

The experienced goalkeeper indicated 'we have to be the best of those 7 or 8 teams that will fight to stay up in the league'

Fernando Pacheco has gone through all kinds of situations throughout his footballing career and knows perfectly the keys to staying up in the top flight: 'We have to keep your feet on the ground. We just landed in the Primera Division so we have to be ambitious, but with our feet on the ground. We must be fully aware that most teams are above us. What we do have to do is to become the best within those 7 or 8 teams that will be fighting to stay up.'

The goalkeeper, who has featured in more than 200 hundred LaLiga Santander games has shared his clear objective: 'I'll try to contribute my experience to this young group in which several veterans have arrived and that, together with those who were before, we have to stick together and find the balance. I'm happy because after so many years in Vitoria, I've found a good project like this, which represents a new challenge in my career.'

The 30-year-old keeper has also added the following: 'I've come here to give my best and to add experience and healthy competition. The other goalkeepers and I have a good relationship. Now it's Fernando's turn and he's doing very well. The important thing is that there's quality in training so that the head coach is the one who chooses. The team is all that matters. My obligation is to be prepared and keep up the pace with Fernando so that he doesn't relax and above all, help the team.'

The Badajoz-born goalie has provided and assessment on the start of his team to the season: 'This is the top division and it's very difficult to win games. The team must be alive in every single game and we've had the option of bagging more points than we have done actually. It's necessary to give some time to all the new signings. The team is on the right track. I feel immense enthusiasm within the squad and with that everything can be achieved. Young players shouldn't carry a heavy burden. We must remain united and be clear about the way to go. Rubi leads the group very well. We're a family.'
