Pacesetters UD Almería extend their lead atop the table

The high-flying Rojiblancos open the gap to 8 points with second-placed SD Eibar. Third placed CD Tenerife sit 10 points behind

UD Almería continue to extend their winning streak and their lead atop LaLiga SmartBank. After Matchday 17, the Rojiblancos increased their points collection to 8 with respect to second-placed SD Eibar and to 10 with third-placed CD Tenerife. The UD Almeria team are on fire as they continue to bag 3 points game after game as they won 7 matches in a row while their direct rivals cannot keep up pace with them. SD Eibar shared the points with CD Lugo and therefore, the side from the Basque Country dropped two big points. Real Valladolid CF left the Mediterraneo empty-handed so the Pucelanos are now 12 points behind the Rojiblancos, while UD La Palmas lost to Malaga CF and sit 13th in the table. SD Ponferradina, 4th in the standings, are 11 points adrift.

Out of the play-off spots are Málaga CF with 25 points, 14 behind UD Almería who continue to break records. After 17 fixtures, they are the team with the most points picked up in the entire history of the second tier in Spain. The Rojiblancos have bagged 40 of the 51 points so far, they are the team with the best home form -neighbours Málaga CF surpass them by one point as they are one game ahead-, the side with the best away form, the highest scoring team and last but not least, the ones who concede the leas...

In addition, UD Almería, who found it difficult to pull one back in those games when they were trailing, knew how to react and turn the game around last weeked, something that had only happened once in the 36 league games in which the Indalicos were in the match on the losing side.

Head coach Rubi and his players continue to call for humility, hard work and prudence since it is too early to celebrate....There are 25 battles ahead or what is the same, 75 points at stake. A couple of seasons ago, at some point Cádiz CF were 11 points above UD Almería, who managed to hunt down and snatch their lead, although things changed later on. Oh well, we are talking about LaLiga SmartBank!
