‘Our ambition is to stay at the top of the table, but we have to go match by match’

UD Almería skipper Jose Corpas believes that the last away loss can serve ‘to gain momentum’

No great success was ever achieved without a string of failures. After UD Almeria’s last away defeat at El Toralin Stadium, the players are now eager to correct mistakes: ‘We know that we’ve dropped those three points but we also know that this doesn’t stop here and there’s still much to be done. Defeats hurt…yes, but above all, they serve to learn from them. The last slip will help us gain momentum if we learn from it and thus, face this exciting final stretch of the season,’ explained José Corpas to the Club’s official media. The skipper insisted on the most important things within the Segunda Division: ‘When we strung together back-to-back wins before, no one went mad and behaved as if they were in the top flight. The same is happening now after losing, no one has doubts about our chances. Balance. There’s a long way to go and if we correct mistakes and we mentally balance ourselves, we’ll achieve it.’

The Rojiblancos' next fixture is against CD Leganés: ‘These three points are worth the same as in other match weeks but we know that if we win, we’ll beat direct rivals who are in the play-offs at the moment. It’d boost our morale and give us a lot of strength. It's what we want and it’s what we’re going to look for. It’s true and it’s a reality that we didn’t defeat those above yet no team were better than us. We have enough potential and we’ve shown that we can take on anyone. We must continue the same, hoping that hard work tips the balance in our favour in the remaining matches against direct rivals,’ commented the 29-year-old player. The 29-year-old right-winger believes that ‘it’s a Primera Division game and we must keep all three points in our locker.’

The last LaLiga SmartBank Matchdays are coming up: ‘As the games go by, the difficulty increases. All the teams have plenty at stake…at the top and at the bottom. It’s true that we might be a side with young players, but with talent. Everyone does their bit to send Almeria to the top flight,’ concluded the prolific goal-scorer.
