The UD Almería head coach acknowledged: 'Real Oviedo put us under pressure in the second half, but we had 3 or 4 clear counter-attacking opportunities to kill the game'. He also stressed: 'We have to give credit to what this team are doing'
'We're left with a bittersweet feeling because we had all three points in the bag in the 87th minute, but in the end we came away with just one.' Those were the words of Xavier García Pimienta at the post-match press conference following UD Almería's 2-2 draw against Real Oviedo.
The UD Almería head coach explained: 'We played a good first half, created chances and scored goals. At 2-0 down at half-time, it was only natural for the opposition to step things up and they put us under a lot of pressure. However, we had 3 or 4 very clear counter-attacking opportunities to score a third goal and practically put the game to bed. We didn't make the most of them.'
Nevertheless, he was keen to acknowledge the quality of the opposition. 'We also have to take into account the team we were up against. They have plenty of quality, have players with LaLiga experience and came into the game on a good run, having won three of their previous four matches.' He added: 'They pressed us very high up the pitch and did it well. We made substitutions to try to keep the ball, but they managed to equalise. Credit to them for the way they played.'
The UD Almería boss reflected: 'When you're 2-0 up at home in the 87th minute, you would normally expect to go on and win. But winning 7 games in a row is not something that happens every day. This is a very difficult division to win games in, and you have to give credit to the opposition too.'
The Barcelona-born concluded: 'We're still unbeaten and continuing to pick up points. Now we have to make this point count by getting a good result in our next game against SD Eibar. You can't win every game. We're only on Matchday 11 and there's still a lot of football to be played. We must recognise and appreciate what this team is achieving.'
