Rubi: 'We're going to be incredibly motivated to see red and white shirts in Córdoba'
The UD Almería gaffer is confident despite missing key players ahead of Andalusian derby
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, better known as Rubi, is preparing his side for a challenging Andalusian derby against Córdoba CF this Sunday, despite being without five key players. Álex Muñoz is suspended, while Horta, Selvi, Nelson Monte, and Fernando are all sidelined due to injury. However, Rubi remains confident in his squad's ability to compete at a high level.
Rubi acknowledged the challenge of adjusting his defence, which has been one of the team’s strengths this season. Despite the absences, he has faith in his options: 'Pedro Fidel will be in the squad list, but we have very experienced players at the back.'
Looking ahead to the match, Rubi highlighted the strength of their opponents: 'Córdoba CF are an attacking team, brave and they don’t sit back. They’re always looking to dominate the game.'
'We want to keep possession too, but there will be moments when we’ll be under pressure, and we have to be prepared for that and stay focused,' he added.
With more than 500 travelling supporters expected at the Nuevo Arcángel stadium, the Vilassar de Mar native is excited about the atmosphere and the motivation it brings: 'We’re going to be extremely motivated to look into the stands and see red and white shirts. That stadium always has an incredible atmosphere, and the fans’ roars will only push us further,' he said.
Rubi also spoke about the progress his team has made, stressing that they are no longer the easy target they were early in the season: 'We've found stability and we're no longer the easy team we were in the first few Matchdays. The commitment from everyone is unanimous.'
The match promises to be a thrilling encounter as UD Almería aim to continue its strong form while facing a determined Córdoba CF side in what will be their first Andalusian derby of the season.
