Rubi: 'We must keep improving after redemption in León'

The UD Almería’s head coach focuses on continued growth ahead of Sanse away match this Friday (KO 7:30pm Spanish Time)

UD Almería head coach Rubi is determined to keep the momentum going following his team's 1-0 victory in León, stressing the importance of continued improvement as they prepare to face Real Sociedad 'B' on Friday at Anoeta. Despite the positive result, Rubi insists that the team cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

'We redeemed ourselves in León and we must keep improving; we can't let up now,' said Rubi, who is confident that his players will continue to progress as the season unfolds. He noted the defensive strides made from their opening loss to Albacete Balompié to a clean sheet performance against Cultural.

The Catalan also acknowledged the threat posed by Sanse, describing them as a 'very dangerous' team that is 'doing very well' under their current management. 'They’ve shown integrity and personality and if they continue like this, they will give us a lot of trouble in the division,' the gaffer added.

Reflecting on past encounters, Rubi recalled the last time UD Almería faced Real Sociedad 'B' in the second tier, highlighting the impressive rise of players like Aldasoro, Karrikaburu, Turrientes and Robert Navarro, which speaks volumes about the quality of work at Real Sociedad.

Looking ahead to the match, Rubi emphasised the importance of adapting to the opponents while maintaining flexibility in his line-up. 'When we plan matches, we take into account the player’s form and the characteristics they can bring to the game,' he said, hinting that there may be minor adjustments but reaffirming that the squad is fully prepared for the challenge ahead.

Lastly, the Vilassar de Mar native reminisced about his previous time at Anoeta, where he has fond memories from his time in the second division, but he remains focused on the task at hand. 'It’s a great stadium, but we know we’re in for a tough match against a strong, cohesive unit in Sanse,' he concluded.
