Álex Muñoz: 'We're expecting a tough-looking match in Leganés'
The UD Almería left-back analyses the visit to the Butarque stadium and backs CD Leganés to rise in the standings
UD Almería's left-back Álex Muñoz caught up with UDA Radio ahead of the upcoming game at the Butarque, stressing the difficulty of the challenge awaiting the Rojiblancos. 'It's never easy to win there. They're a team that came up from the top-flight and on top of the core group of players they already had, they've strengthened their squad very well. It's going to be tough. The details will make the difference. They'll end up near the top of the table,' he said.
UD Almería have shown notable improvements in both defence and attack in recent weeks, something Muñoz considers essential. 'In the first few matches, I thought something strange was happening because it wasn't normal to concede so many goals. One of the foundations has to be the defensive phase and we've managed to find a balance. I believe we're a strong unit and with the coaching staff's work, we've improved a lot. We must continue like this, without falling apart during matches,' he noted.
The defender also highlighted the depth and internal competition within the squad. 'There's a lot of healthy competition in every position. For example, I was very happy the other day about the victory and Centelles' performance. Internal competition is another key to having a good year in the Segunda,' he pointed out.
Muñoz once again praised the connection between the team and the supporters: 'I sense a very beautiful connection between the stands and the fans. I see that they like what we convey and we have to foster this in every match because, now that things are going well, it shows us that they'll be there even when we're not winning.'
With two matches fast approaching, including a mid-week fixture in Ceuta, the full-back sees an opportunity to build momentum: 'The sooner we play it, the better. Then the Spanish Cup comes and several consecutive matches. It's a wild card that we want to take full advantage of to get another 3 points.'
