Rubi: 'We can't blame the players for not playing a good game'
The UD Almería gaffer believes: 'Granada CF knew how to bide its time because until the 2-1, we were controlling the game.' The head coach expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support of the UDA travelling fans
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' lamented his team's 3-1 defeat at the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium and the way it happened in a post-Granada press conference. 'I think we saw a very good UD Almería performance, perhaps the best game we've played away from home in quite some time. Granada CF knew how to bide its time because, truly until the 2-1, we were controlling the game. After Gonzalo Villar's goal, which was a sizzling goal, the opponents came into their own and had their moment of success in the match,' explained the head coach.
The Vilassar de Mar native claimed to have seen a good performance with tons of work from the Indálicos despite the defeat: 'I know the result is disappointing, but it's not a day to blame the players for not playing a good game."
On the other hand, the Catalan insisted that the Granada side's second goal had left the visitors reeling and regarding promotion to the top flight, he isn't about to throw in the towel: 'I can say that our performance was poor after the 2-1 because that goal hurt us a lot and Granada CF came out on top, but I'm happy with how the rest of the game panned out. Disappointed? Absolutely, because we didn't win. We're going to keep fighting for the top-two spots and if not, time will tell. It's obvious it's getting tougher, but we're not going to give up.'
Finally, the Vilassar de Mar native sent a message to the UDA travelling fans, who turned up in numbers at the Nazaríes fortress to attend the Andalusian derby: 'I want to thank the people of Almería who came to watch the game because they really pushed us hard. Let's keep fighting because there's no other option.'
