Rubi: 'We reacted well in a difficult game'
The UD Almería head coach considered the final result fair, stated: 'We want to earn three points and always put in a show, but the rivals also play their game.' He said: 'We're in a situation in which the team have already shown that they can far surpass it and will do so.'
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' gave his take on the one-all draw with guests Real Oviedo: 'The result can be considered fair. The rivals played a great first half and we reacted well in a very difficult match, so we deserved to score,' he stressed.
The Catalan insisted that there were two evenly-matched teams battling it out at the top of the table and the importance of getting points in such a competitive tier: 'It's a point that, for the moment, places us second. We have to continue adjusting things, but we've seen two very competitive teams; each with their strengths. They had a lot of midfielders to not let us play or let Arribas receive the ball and us with our idea of trying to create plays... I like the fact that my team did not lower the intensity in the first 20 minutes which were the hardest.'
The Catalan highlighted the complexity of the opponents and on the other hand, the Indálicos' ability to react; key to having rescued a point: 'We were playing against a very tough and solid team. It's difficult to outclass Real Oviedo and take them from one side to the other, to overcome the midfield, we had to fight and we did it because otherwise we wouldn't have tied the match.'
The UD Almería head coach reflected: 'There are phases of the league in which it costs a little more to win. It's normal, we want to add three points at a time and always put on a show, but our rivals also play their game. Right now, we're in a situation in which the team has already shown that they can far surpass it and will do so.'
Finally, the Vilassar de Mar native was self-critical and admitted: 'We're struggling more in the first halves than in the second ones, which only goes to prove the physical fitness of the footballers. We're trying to solve it and I hope that between now and the end of the season we'll see a team that scores more than concedes in the first half; For me, it's an important challenge.'
