Rubi: 'We haven’t played well and must admit it'

The UD Almería head coach believes that his team faded away in the second half although he was convinced that the elimination would not affect his team in Saturday’s match against FC Andorra

'Neither the coaching staff nor the players played well and we must admit it,' UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' said as he shared his post-game thoughts following his team elimination from the Spanish Cup by lower-division side CD Eldense.

'We started poorly and even took the lead, but we faded away in the second half. Overall, we didn’t pass the ball as we usually do. They won the ball back many times and we didn’t put in the same high intensity as our opponents,' he explained.

'This is football, these things happen, matches turn out like this, although I had also been saying in the days prior that it was going to be very difficult, that CD Eldense had a brave approach and that they had experienced players of a higher division,' the Catalan added.

When asked if this defeat, coupled with the loss in Ceuta and the share of spoils with SD Huesca, was significant enough to influence Saturday's match, he replied: 'No, not at all. I'm not worried. They're different matches and situations, different tournaments... now we're going to focus on FC Andorra and try to get a good result there.'

The UD Almería head coach publicly thanked the more than 100 travelling fans who went to Elda to cheer on the team.
