Nelson Monte to reinforce the heart of UD Almeria defense

Done deal! The 26-year-old Portuguese signing moves from Ukrainian-based SK Dnipro-1

UD Almería have completed a new signing in March to reinforce the heart of their defence following a myriad of long-term injuries sustained by defenders. After the addition of Italian-Brazilian Rodrigo Ely last week, now Portuguese Nelson Monte, who was playing for SK Dnipro-1 in Ukraine, lands new deal with the Rojiblancos. The Lusitanian became a free agent player when the Ukrainian competition was suspended due to the invasion of Russia and for this reason he can join UD Almeria as allowed by FIFA after the war broke out.

Nelson Macedo Monte was born 26 years ago in the town of Vila do Conte in the district of Porto (Portugal). He is a versatile defender, 1.87m tall, who can play as a centre-back, left-back or right-back. He is an aerial threat and a technical player good at man-to-man marking and an expert in action anticipation and tackling.

The new UD Almería defender had signed this season for Ukranian-based SK Dnipro-1, although the Portuguese had also received offers from the Spanish top flight clubs. Since the 2014/15 campaign, he was a member of the Rio Ave FC first team, playing in the top tier of Portugal and also in the Europa League. Nelson Monte competed in the lower ranks of this same club and in those of Benfica. He has also been international under-19s and under-20s with the Lusitanian national team.
