Rubi: 'We needed to shake off the bad feeling from the Real Zaragoza defeat'

The UD Almería head coach praises his side's win over SD Huesca, calls Baptistão red card harsh and highlights team spirit with 10 men in action

UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' spoke very positively about his side's 1-3 victory over SD Huesca at El Alcoraz stadium, stressing the importance of bouncing back after the previous defeat. 'We needed to shake off the bad feeling we had after losing in Zaragoza,' said the gaffer in the post-match press conference.

When asked about the possibility of moving back into second place in the standings, the Catalan downplayed its importance: 'Right now we’re not focused on that position because we don’t know what Deportivo will do. Our focus is on winning our own matches.'

The UD Almería boss explained that 'both teams had a lot at stake. We started well, created chances, took the lead and many things happened but we knew how to adapt.'

Speaking about the red card shown to Léo Baptistão, Rubi described it as 'harsh,' although he insisted it did not affect his team’s performance. 'With 10 men, we were very well organised, we showed great team spirit, defended compactly and SD Huesca couldn’t find space. The third goal also gave us peace of mind, because without it we'd have suffered a lot.'

To conclude, the Vilassar de Mar native praised and thanked the travelling UD Almería supporters, many of whom made the long journey to Huesca to back the team.
