Mohamed El Assy confirms Quim Junyent signing and Stadium renovation works
The Club CEO outlines financial stability and upcoming projects for UD Almería
UD Almería Managing Director Mohamed El Assy addressed the latest developments at the Club during a press conference following the official presentation of Rodrigo Ely as the newest member of the first-team squad.
The CEO began by discussing the recently concluded January transfer window: 'We analysed the team weaknesses and did a great job with the 3 signings to improve those areas. We’ve reinforced positions with players who have experience and won’t need a long adaptation period.’ El Assy also confirmed the signing of Jorge Pulido for next season, as the Club could not secure his recruitment this time due to SD Huesca’s financial demands. Additionally, he confirmed the arrival of young talent FC Barcelona central midfielder Quim Junyent: ‘They'll join us next pre-season.’
Reflecting on the team's recent performance, El Assy admitted: 'We were very frustrated with the team's results, not because of the defeats, which are part of football, but because we felt we weren't doing enough to avoid them. We conveyed that message and it was acknowledged. Rubi is working hard and has enough experience to turn things around.'
The CEO also spoke about the Club’s financial situation, acknowledging a slight issue with the salary cap: ‘The President helped with a loan that ensures we maintain the same conditions and stability to continue fighting for promotion. This is only our second year in the Segunda after relegation, but we still have a top flight level squad, coaching staff, chartered flights for travel and competitive salaries.’
Looking ahead, El Assy revealed that the Club would shift its approach to target free agents: 'We have important projects ahead.’
Stadium expansion and training complex plans
One of the most immediate projects is the second phase of the UD Almería Stadium renovation. ‘We will begin the works at the end of this season and complete them before next season ends. The first step will be lowering the pitch level, followed by the new grandstand, East stand and finally the South and North stands, where we plan to place the fan zone and supporters' groups
behind the goals,' he explained. The expanded Stadium will have a capacity of 28,000 spectators. El Assy added that further details will be shared soon.
Last but not least, El Assy was asked about the Club's sports complex, which is being developed on land purchased in El Toyo. ‘This is more of a legal matter. We're awaiting a report from the regional government, which should soon be sent to the city council for them to proceed with the process. The legal process is slow, but we're financially and operationally ready to begin the works,' he concluded.
