Thalys: 'More important than my goal is our first away win'

Thalys returned to action after serving a 4-match suspension and scored UD Almería’s second goal just moments after coming off the bench

Thalys had already made his intentions clear in an interview with UDA Radio, the Club’s official station. Ahead of the trip to Córdoba and having completed his 4-match suspension, the Brazilian forward spoke of his desire to make his mark in the new season. He certainly delivered.

Head coach Xavier García Pimienta brought him on in the second half in place of Miguel de la Fuente and Thalys needed just moments to make his presence felt, scoring the Rojiblancos’ second goal to seal the victory.

'I’m really happy to be back playing and to score,' the Brazilian striker said after the final whistle. However, as he emphasised, “m'more important than my goal is securing our first away win. It’s a great victory.'

Thalys admitted that it had been a difficult period for him, 'not getting promoted last season and then having to serve the suspension.' At the same time, he explained:' I decided not to dwell on it and to focus on the new season, putting in the work.'

Reflecting on his goal, he said: 'The ball came to me and I knew exactly what I wanted to do: hit it first time. I didn’t hesitate.'
