Marcos Peña: 'It's gratifying and an honour to join up with the national team'

The Almería-born UD Almería'B' youngster values ​​his experience in the training camp with the U19 national team. Spain U19 prepare for the European competition to be held in July in Northern Ireland

UD Almería 'B' players Marcos Peña is experiencing a truly spectacular year in his footballing career. Last season, he was crowned runner-up of the Copa del Rey U19 with the UD Almería U19 'A' youth team and in the current campaign he made the leap to 'B' team and then, with the arrival of head coach Pepe Mel to the first team, he joined the professional team training and debuted in the Primera Division. 

All this has triggered his first called-up to go with the national team of his tier. 'It has been a very good and rewarding experience. It's a pride to go with the squad of his country because it is one of the things you fight for,' said Marcos Peña to UDA Radio, the Club's official station, when assessing the training camp in which he has participated at the El Albir facilities, located in the Alicante town of Alfaz de Pi. Three days of training that they completed with a training game between the 24 players who were called up. 

The footballer from Almería explained 'I left happy and with very good vibes. It has been more of a tactical job and the national coach knew us, especially to those of us who have gone for the first time. The treatment has been incredible, spectacular, both on the part of the team-mates and the coaching staff of the national squad.' 

At the end of June there will be a new training camp and later, national coach José Lana will announce the list of players participating in the European Championship, in which he hopes to call Marcos Peña. The tournament will take place between 15-28 July in Northern Ireland, and Spain will compete in Group B along with Denmark, Türkiye and France.
