Luis Suárez is now one of best scorers in recent seasons
With 23 goals with 7 league fixtures to go, he surpasses Braithwaite, Stuani, and Borja Bastón, who all achieved the 'Pichichi Trophy' with 22 goals, and equals Uzuni and Raúl de Tomás
UD Almería forward Luis Suárez is making history of goalscorers in the second division of Spanish football. With 7 league fixtures to go in the season, he has already surpassed or equalled the top scorers of recent seasons, so his tally could be truly significant.
The Colombian has 23 goals to his tally after the game against FC Cartagema. This means he surpasses Braithwaite of Espanyol de Barcelona, who won the 'Pichichi Trophy' with 22 goals last season. Borja Bastón (Real Oviedo) and Stuani (Girona) reached this same figure in 2021/22. He has also equalled Uzuni (Granada CF) and Raúl de Tomás (Espanyol), who were the top scorers in the 2022/23 and 2020/21 seasons, respectively.
On the other hand, the Colombian is 6 goals away from tying Stuani, who was also the top scorer with 29 goals in the 2019/20 season. He could also break records in UD Almería's history. At the moment he surpasses Álvaro Giménez, who was the top scorer in the league with 20 goals in 2018/19, while Charles, with 27 (2012/13) and Leo Ulloa, with 28 (2011/12), also achieved this individual award.
