Luis Suárez crowned LaLiga Hypermotion top scorer with 27 goals
The Colombian striker wins the Pichichi Trophy, surpassing his record of the previous 4 seasons in the Spanish second division
Luis Suárez has become the LaLiga Hypermotion 2024/25 top scorer securing the Pichichi Trophy, which is awarded at the end of the regular season, regardless of the outcome of the promotion play-offs. This, at least in terms of the award, does not necessarily add to the Colombian striker's record and achievements.
Luis Suárez has beaten his best record of the last 5 seasons. The 27 goals scored clearly exceed those of the previous four top scorers, such as Braithwaite (22, in the 2023/24 campaign), Uzuni (23, in 2022/23), Stuani and Borja Bastón (22, in 2021/22) and Raúl de Tomás (23, in 2020/21).
On the other hand, the 27-year-old is the 4th Pichichi UD Almería have had in the second division of Spanish football. The previous top scorers were Brazilian Charles, also with 27 goals in the 2012/13 campaign; Álvaro Giménez, who grabbed 20 in the 2018/19 season and Leo Ulloa, with 28 in the 2011/12 season.
Luis Suárez's record is one of the best of the 21st century. The highest tally of the last 25 years is held by Jaime Mata, with Real Valladolid, who reached 33 goals in the 2017/18 season. Joining him on an imaginary podium would be former UDA player Jonathan Soriano, who netted 32 goals during his time with FC Barcelona 'B' (2010/11 season) and Rubén Castro with 31 goals, in the 2014/15 season with Betis Balompié.
In addition to these players, Luis Suárez has remained very close to players like Nino, who scored 29 with CD Tenerife in the 2008/09 La Liga season; Stuani, with another 29 with Girona FC in the 2019/20 season and the above-mentioned Leo Ulloa, the top scorer in the Segunda in 2011/12 with 28 goals while playing for UD Almería.
