Luis Suárez is one of the 21st century best scorers

Jaime Mata (33), Jonathan Soriano (32), and Rubén Castro (31) are on the podium. The Colombian striker has equalled Charles (27 goals) and is one goal behind Leo Ulloa (28), who won the 'Pichichi Trophy' in the second division with UD Almería

Luis Suárez continues to break records in LaLiga Hypermotion and with 4 goals scored in the last two fixtures, he strengthens his lead as the second-tier league's top scorer with 27 goals. This number places him as one of the best scorers of the 21st century, even though he has 4 more matches to go to increase his tally.

In the last 25 years, the highest tally is held by Jaime Mata with Real Valladolid, who reached 33 goals in the 2017/21 season. Alongside him on an imaginary podium would be Jonathan Soriano, former UD Almería player, who netted 32 goals during his time at FC Barcelona 'B' (2010/21 season) and Rubén Castro, with 31, in the 2014/15 season playing for Betis Balompié.

In addition to these players, Luis Suárez is also closely behind, albeit very close behind, players like Nino, who scored 29 with CD Tenerife in the 2008/09 campaign; Stuani, with another 29 with Girona FC, in the 2019/20 season; and Leo Ulloa, the top scorer in the Segunda division in 2011/12 with 28 goals while playing for UD Almería.

UD Almería have three 'Pichichis' in the Spanish second division to date: the above-mentioned Argentinian striker, Brazilian Charles (2012/13), with whom Luis Suárez has equalled, and Alvaro Giménez (2018/19), whom the Colombian has surpassed, as the Elche-born striker grabbed 20 goals at the time.

Another fact to keep in mind is that Suárez has eliminated the top scorers of the previous 5 seasons: Braithwaite (22, in 2023/24), Uzuni (23, in 2022/23), Stuani and Borja Bastón (22, in 2021/22) and last but not least, Raúl de Tomás (23, in 2020/21).
