Luis Suárez back in UD Almería squad after three and a half months out with injury

Head coach Gaizka Garitano has named the striker in the team roster as well as central midfielder Gonzalo Melero for the opening match of the second half of the season against runners-up Girona FC in the Power Horse Stadium

Striker Luis Suárez is back in the UD Almería squad after three and a half months on the treatment table due to the serious injury that he suffered on 1st October, 2023 playing against Granada CF on Matchday 8 fixture in which he grabbed a superb hat-trick.

Head coach Gaizka Garitano has named the Colombian in the team roster for this Sunday's opening game of the second half of the season against in-form Girona FC. His availability will depend on how the encounter goes and the risks involved considering that he has been out for quite a long time and with few training sessions completed with the group. Without a doubt, the presence of Luis Suárez is the main highlight of this squad list, although it is not the only one since Gonzalo Melero is also available for selection. The central midfielder picked up an injury against RCD Mallorca and was forced off the pitch that day not featuring in the following meetings against FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna.

On the contrary, Arnau Puigmal will miss out due to a minor muscle injury; Koné and the internationals who are on duty in the African Cup of Nations such as Mendes, Baba and Marciano will also be absent.

UD Almería have the firm intention of gaining redemption for dark days in the season with the start of the second half of LaLiga EA Sports. They are willing to do a feat to try to fight for league survival. At the moment, the Rojiblancos are 11 points adrift from safety and are eager to start the long-awaited comeback. It will not be easy since next opponents Girona FC are co-leaders with real Madrid CF. The Catalans are also the top scoring team and the only side that after an entire first stage remain undefeated on their travels.
