Rubi: 'Both teams are going all out for the win'
The UD Almería head coach focused on strong performance against daring Málaga CF
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, known as 'Rubi', is looking forward to a thrilling encounter in the Andalusian derby against Málaga CF at La Rosaleda Stadium this Sunday. The Catalan coach described the match as a 'fantastic game,' highlighting the spectacle of the stadium and the large turnout of UD Almería travelling supporters. Despite the upcoming Christmas break, Rubi emphasised that his team is fully focused and highly motivated for the clash.
'It's going to be a fantastic game. It's an Andalusian derby in a spectacular stadium with a massive turnout of our fans. We're focused on it and highly motivated,' he stressed. When asked about the potential distraction of the holiday season, Rubi remained confident that his squad would stay focused.
UD Almería's recent record in their final match of the year has been less than ideal, and Rubi acknowledged this without dwelling on the statistics: 'That's just the data. It's a different kind of game, a new one,' he remarked. He also noted that Málaga would be eager to end their own winless streak against UD Almería at La Rosaleda, with the last victory there dating back several seasons.
Both Andalusian sides are expected to go all out for the win, with Rubi stressing the importance of ending the year on a high note: 'It'd be great to go on holiday with a victory and start the year on that note,' he said, before adding that his side needs to regain their form after a sluggish performance in last week's 1-1 draw against Burgos CF. 'We were lackluster and sluggish,' Rubi admitted.
Málaga CF have been in strong form lately, going 4 matches unbeaten, and Rubi praised their style of play. 'They're very daring, dynamic, intense, with players who are bold in one-on-one situations,' he noted.
Despite concerns about the team's recent performances, Rubi emphasised that his primary focus is not on the results of their direct rivals but on ensuring UD Almería's own success. 'We're calm, we're well-positioned in the standings, and whatever happens in Málaga, our chances will remain intact,' he explained.
'My obsession is that we do well, that we can get the 3 points, and that we can give our fans something to cheer about. This motivates us a lot,' the Catalan concluded.
