Lopy cleared to play against Cádiz CF after suspension error rectified

The RFEF corrects mistake, reversing one-match ban for the UD Almería defensive midfielder

Dion Lopy will be available to play for UD Almería in their upcoming match against Cádiz CF next Sunday, following a reversal of his suspension by the RFEF Competition Committee. The Senegalese defensive midfielder was initially handed a one-match ban for accumulating yellow cards, but the decision has been overturned due to a computer error.

The Spanish Football Federation's disciplinary body explained that the ban was incorrectly imposed after failing to account for the fact that the match in Ceuta, where Lopy received his 5th yellow card, had been suspended. As a result, the official match report is incomplete until the second half of that game is played, with no scheduled date yet for its completion.

UD Almería had initially been caught off guard by the suspension notice, given that it was clear from the start that Lopy should not have been banned based on current regulations and past precedents. The Club’s legal team had already begun preparing an appeal when the correction was issued.

With the issue resolved, Lopy will be available for selection by head coach Rubi, as UD Almería step up preparations for the match, which will now be held behind closed doors at the UD Almería Stadium.
