Rubi: 'What they're playing for is not more important than what we are'
The UD Almería head coach asks his team for a response in Huesca with more offensive production and greater concentration, highlighting the opponents' defensive strength
UD Almería head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' highlighted in the pre-Huesca press conference the areas to improve compared to the last game: 'We need to look more towards the opponents' goal and attack faster than the other day. If our biggest asset is scoring, we must create more dangerous situations and show it in Huesca from the off.' He also stressed 'maintaining concentration in the final minutes because we've lost many points in that period'.
UD Almería will visit SD Huesca after ending a 6-game unbeaten run and Rubi has called for a step forward: 'A team like ours, after losing the previous match, have to come out giving more and win the next one. I expect a response from the team,' he stressed in the press room.
Regarding the hosts, the gaffer was very clear about the stakes: 'They have a lot to play for, but so do we. I don't accept that survival is more important for them than promotion is for us. SD Huesca will surely give it their all to stay up, but we have to give our maximum to achieve our goal.'
On the strictly footballing side, Rubi said: 'We face a battle because I know El Alcoraz stadium and the atmosphere there strongly favours SD Huesca.' He added: 'Our scoring spirit is the Achilles heel of our rivals and must be our main weapon to shake them. Also, I believe our away victories partly depend on striking first.'
The Vilassar de Mar native highlighted SS Huesca's strengths: 'They're hard to break down. That's their defensive identity. There are teams that, if they score a goal, know how to control the game, so it's vital that we score first.'
Finally, Rubi stated: 'There's still a lot to play for and the standings are not definitive, not even for the leaders.'
