UD Almería set to secure first home W of season against Sporting
Rubi's side is eager to bounce back after mixed home results
UD Almería are gearing up for a crucial home fixture this Saturday against Real Sporting de Gijón, hoping to secure their first W at home this season. With 2 disappointing results from their previous home matches, a 4-4 draw against Albacete Balompié and a 3-2 defeat to Real Racing Club de Santander, the Rojiblancos are determined to turn the tide and deliver a much-needed victory.
Despite recent setbacks, Rubi’s team have shown positive signs, playing high-level football throughout the season. The squad remains unbeaten in terms of overall performance but has been plagued by defensive lapses and costly mistakes, which have prevented them from translating good performances into results. In their last outing to Valladolid, UD Almería fought hard despite conceding a rebound goal and a penalty and also had a goal ruled out and missed a penalty of their own.
With Real Sporting de Gijón also on a 2-match losing streak after winning their opening 3 games, UD Almería know they will face a wounded opponent, one that will come out fighting. Nonetheless, the Indálicos are confident they have what it takes to secure all three points, especially with their hard work in training showing progress toward the balance they have been searching for.
The Indálicos will have one final training session on Friday afternoon, the day before the match, at the same venue. Rubi is expected to finalise his lineup after evaluating the fitness of players returning from injury.
Although Lopy has completed his one-game suspension, the rest of the squad is progressing well and the gaffer will be hopeful that all players will be available for selection.
