Rubi: 'The important thing was to win and regain our confidence'

The UD Almería head coach highlights the fighting spirit of his players and the extraordinary backing of the fans

'The important thing was to win and regain our confidence and we've achieved both of those,' said UD Almería head coach Rubi as he shared his post-Ceuta thoughts.

'I asked the players to go out on the pitch and deliver and we played a very complete first half. It’s true that in a stretch of the second half, we ran out of energy a little, and we couldn’t keep up the same intensity,' he added.

'We did suffer for a few minutes because the opponents also play an attacking game and we gave away a penalty due to an error, but we kept having chances, we hit the crossbar and overall, we were the superior team,' he explained.

When asked what he had changed to make UD Almería look different from previous matches, he replied: 'I already said that we are recovering players and those who have come in are going to help… All of this adds up and it’s been shown that the team have resources, although not everything always works out as you want because there are many factors at play.'

'Compared to the match in Éibar, we made two changes. André Horta came in, who gives us a lot of football and Jon Morcillo, because we wanted to keep possession and play with the ball and we moved the ball very well,' he stressed.

The Catalan praised the attitude of his players: 'It’s a pleasure to coach this team because everyone works hard, applies themselves and has great enthusiasm to reach the goals.'

On the other hand, Rubi spoke highly of the fans: 'They’ve been extraordinary and have been right there beside the team.
