Rubi: 'Today there was a will but there was no way'
The UD Almería head coach reflected in the post-Eibar press conference: 'The goal against us decided the game, but we had many minutes ahead of us to try to equalise, at least, or come back.'
UD Almería head coach Rubi reflected on the defeat in the press room at Ipurua Stadium to assess the game against SD Eibar, which has meant the 8th consecutive match without adding three points. 'We've once again relapsed into a bad start to the game. We were aware of the type of football that the rivals were going to go for; playing at high intensity, with second balls, with many duels… But despite being prepared, SD Eibar have managed to impose their style in the opening minutes”,' he explained.
The Vilassar de Mar native is aware of the importance of Matheus' opener as it affects the rest of the match and points out that the team lacks inspiration when it comes to creating chances: 'The goal against us determines the match, but we have many minutes ahead to try to equalise, at least, or come back; in fact we have done it many times. At the beginning it was difficult for us to find everything we had prepared, then we tried to change the way and more forwards came in to get crosses. Our rivals were fully involved and knew how to play with that goal and we lacked inspiration. We're leaving disappointed because we came with the hope of continuing the work that had been done in the last two matches.'
The Catalan gaffer continued by highlighting one of the best opportunities UD Almería had to find the back of the net: 'We were unable to match their pace and overcome the goal during the first half, except for the set piece that Baptistão finished off, which was the clearest chance we had. The second half there was no way despite there was a will.'
Last bit not least, Rubi praised the defensive work of the attackers, but regretted the lack of precision up front: 'We're trying to get the player right, who we see is totally willing to help the team in whatever way. The attacking players did a great job defensively today, but they were unable to shine in the offensive task. We tried everything, we took a lot of risks at times and we were not able to do it.'
