Arnau Puigmal: 'I've been looking to score for a while'
The UD Almería central midfielder was the protagonist in the match against Elche CF. He scored the last-gasp equaliser to rescue a hard-fought point. Despite playing through the pain, he continued fighting on the pitch
Arnau Puigmal was one of the great protagonists of the big match played between UD Almería and Elche CF. 'I found what I'd been looking for for a long time, which was to score,' he explained in a short post-match statement. He had done it in the Spanish Cup tournament, coming back from the first round tie with a fantastic brace, but not in the Segunda division despite having tried and having had opportunities to do so.
But the goal came eventually and also at a key moment because as Puigmal said: 'We always go all out to win and although we haven't done so in the last 5 games, this point allows us to continue within the play-off positions, being very close to automatic promotion.'
The Barcelona-native footballer made these statements on UDA Radio, the Club's official radio station, as soon as the game ended, about which he said: 'It was very complicated because we faced tough rivals and on top of that, they went ahead, we were reduced to 10 men... We had everything against us, but we knew how to react and earn this vital point.'
Arnau Puigmal was injured a few minutes after scoring, he was treated by the Club's medical services and despite the discomfort he decided to continue on the pitch with a bandage on his left leg. When asked how he was feeling, he responded: 'I'll have to take tests, but I'm not very optimistic because of the feelings I have. I decided to continue playing because I couldn't get out of the way as things were. I had to make sacrifices.'
