‘Let’s not make drama out of the last two defeats, we just have to keep calm’

Jorge Cuenca underlines that ‘we’re the same team who pulled off six consecutive victories within a ten-game undefeated run before’

It is not doom and gloom. Almería are excited to turn the page after last week’s defeats with full confidence and common sense as Jorge Cuenca has expressed: ‘It’s obvious that losing hurts. The last two games haven’t put us down. If we win this weekend while some rivals don’t, we’ll be again in the top positions. We mustn’t throw everything away nor must we make a drama. This is very long and the league will end once the last matches are played as it always happens.’ The central defender has a sure recipe for returning to the path of greatness: ‘We have to focus on our essence and repeat what we’ve done so many times to reach automatic promotion places. We have to continue on the same path by doing things right. We’re the same as before… the same team who pulled off six consecutive victories within a ten-game undefeated run before.’

The Rojiblancos squad have lost two back-to-back games, yet the 21-year-old player leaves no room for any doubts: ‘This is football. It all depends on winning or losing streaks. At the beginning of the season, we were on a poor run of results and we managed to bounce back eventually. Now, it is going to happen exactly the same with other teams losing. It’s true that the results aren’t what we wanted but things will turn around. I'm sure of it. We’ll achieve it all together.’ For that matter, Cuenca believes that the squad requires considerable strength: ‘We’re like a family. We’ll dedicate ourselves to training and sorting out things in our game during this long week. Any project set up aiming to fight for automatic promotion requires mental toughness in moments like these: ‘Going mad is pointless. We must take it calmly. Each fixture is vital. We’ll take each game as it comes and with full confidence. As long as we show our playing style, we’d pick up three points in every game. That's what we have to do.’

UD Almería play at home again this weekend and the players know the way to follow: ‘We have to be psyched up for CD Lugo as they’ll get into this game with a different mindset. They’re a solid team who will cause problems. If we stick to our style of play, we’ll clinch the victory. They’re a great team who we respect but make sure that we’ll go all out to beat them.’
