Baptistão to rest for 48 hours as precaution following knock

UD Almería’s medical chief updates on Brazilian striker's condition, as well as the recovery progress of team-mates Baba, Bruno and Nelson Monte

UD Almería’s head of medical services Sebastián Jiménez has confirmed that Brazilian striker Léo Baptistão will undergo 48 hours of rest and observation after suffering a head and chest injury during Sunday’s match against Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa. Baptistão lost consciousness briefly following a strong impact, but all tests, including a cranial CT scan, returned clear results.

'Although Léo is doing well, it's essential to give him enough time to recover,' Jiménez stated explaining that Baptistão had experienced vasovagal syncope caused by the force of the blow and the stress of the match. The player was discharged early Monday and travelled with the team to Almería.

Dr Jiménez also provided updates on the Club’s other injured players. Ghanaian midfielder Baba is nearing a return, with the medical staff reporting significant progress in his recovery. 'He's in the final stages and we’ve already begun testing him with light activity,' Dr Jiménez revealed.

Goalkeeper Bruno Iribarne, who fractured a phalanx in his right hand, is progressing in his recovery but is still sidelined due to the nature of his position. 'If he weren't a goalkeeper, he'd already be training, but given the location of the injury, we must be cautious,' Dr Jiménez explained.

Portuguese defender Nelson Monte, who sustained a severe ligament injury in pre-season, is also recovering well. 'His sprain was almost grade three, with a partial ligament tear. He’s progressing, but we have to remain cautious with his rehab,' Sebastián Jiménez concluded.
