LaLiga confirms that five players have tested positive for Covid-19 between First and Second Division
The Professional Football League (LFP) has issued a press release upon completion of the coronavirus tests
After completing the screening coronavirus tests on the minimum essential personnel involved when resuming training, some players have tested positive for Covid-19. Five footballers from both LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank clubs, have been diagnosed with coronavirus. All of them are asymptomatic and in the last stage of the disease. Their identities remain unknown as LaLiga does not know in compliance with the Organic Law on Data Protection.
These aggregated data have been transferred by LaLiga to the Spain Sports Council (CSD) and the Ministry of Health. As planned, the next steps with those people who have tested positive for Covid-19 are:
- Stay at home in self-quarantine, following their individual workout programmes and club’s instructions as they have been doing up to now.
- In the next few days they will be tested again for Covid-19 and, after obtaining two negative results, they will be able to join the training sessions at their club facilities.
- Moreover, LaLiga will offer people who live with those affected the possibility of also undergoing screening coronavirus tests.
LaLiga protocol will continue to apply to a resumption of training, approved by the CSD and the Ministry of Health, in order to ensure the maximum health and safety of all players, coaching staff and club employees.
LaLiga have reminded all participants in training not to relax the recommended health and safety measures and make sure to ensure protocols are in place and mitigate the risk as far as possible. It is intended for use both at home and at work. It advises on social distancing every time they go outside for a stroll or go running in order to keep this number of cases low.
