Kaiky: 'Team unity is going to place us at the top'
The UD Almería centre-back made it clear: 'Our obligation is to climb up the table and we're working for it, although the objective is achieved through graft and humility.' He positively values his loan spell at Albacete Balompié last season
UD Almería centre-back Kaiky Fernandes has chatted to UDA Radio, the Club's official radio station about his role this season in the team, highliting his loan spell to Albacete Balompié last year: 'I feel good in terms of confidence, although I can still perform better. The fact of leaving last season on loan was essential to grow as a footballer and I've returned with the desire to continue improving.'
One of the topics discussed was the match on Matchday 3 against Sporting de Gijón in which the team dropped two points. 'When a game slips away like that, being the first at home, with so many chances... you feel bad, but we must continue because, although you always want to win, you have to keep in mind that we did very well and that this has just started,' said the central defender.
UD Almería are one of the clear favourites for promotion and the other rivals in the second division let them know this. 'People talk a lot about it, but we're humble and calm and working hard from the beginning. The results come from that and not from names.'
The 20-year-old footballer considers that 'the most important thing is team unity, which is what will place them at the top. We come with that mentality this year, our obligation is to move up and we're working hard for it.'
With regard to the relegation disappointment last season, the Brazilian was emphatic: 'I reckon the defeats triggered a lot of anxiety for the team, but now we're calm because we have the confidence of having had a good pre-season and we've started the competition on the front foot.'
The Santos native also spoke about the next opponents in the competition, recently-promoted CD Eldense: 'Last Sunday, we played against tough opponents, who work very well. Away from home, you must give much more because the games are more difficult. We must start well, dominate them and with humility go all out for a win.'
