Luis Suárez: 'Our priority is to get into the play-offs to take a weight off our shoulders'
The Colombian striker believes that the first step toward fighting for promotion is to get back into the top half of the table. 'It's undoubtedly our best season,' he says but at the same time has 'mixed feelings because we haven't quite found the right momentum.'
LaLiga Hypermotion and UD Almería top scorer Luis Suárez has chatted to UDA Radio to review the current team situation and discuss his impeccable performance. 'On a personal level, I have mixed feelings because you can't be 100% happy, even though I'm having a good season in terms of goals, assists, and helping the team… Because we haven't quite found the right momentum,' he stated.
The Colombian highlights one of the keys to explaining his outstanding performance this season: 'This is undoubtedly the best season; in terms of goals, assists, good play, mental maturity... The ability to get our of a personal slumps when I'm not scoring is something that comes with experience.'
Regarding last week's match against Burgos CF, he stated, 'It was an uphill battle, I don't know if it was because it was the second half. From the inside, I felt that after the 2-1, anything the opponents did would have overwhelmed us. In the end, the third goal came, which shows that we're down.'
As one of the most authoritative voices within the squad and also for the UDA fans, the Colombian confessed: 'I'm here today to speak to the fans, to our Club, to our team-mates. We know we're many points away from where we wanted to be, and that's the reality. This is football, and it's a very long season. Right now, we have to set mini-goals, and the first one is to get into the play-offs, to take a step forward. From there, we'll take a weight off our shoulders.'
On that note, the 27-year-old added: 'We have important games to win, like this weekend's. And I reckon we have a chance of doing that if we don't get overwhelmed. We must stay calm, united, and know that we can achieve our objective one way or another.'
The Santa Marta native emphasised again: 'The priority for me, and I think for everyone, should be to take a step forward and get into the play-offs and from there start picking up points however we can because this is a long road ahead, and we could be down today, but then finish at the top.'
Finally, Suárez referred to next Saturday's home game against Levante UD. 'It's going to be an absolutely exciting game to watch and play. It's one of those games that sets goals for you, direct rivals. We're gutted because of what happened in the first half of the season because we were just finding our feet in the league,' he concluded.
