UD Almería first-team learn new football rules

The Almería-born referee José Antonio Sánchez Villalobos, who is making his LaLiga Hypermotion debut this season, explained to the players and coaches the new features in the regulations

The players and coaching staff of the UD Almería first-team have learned first-hand the new rules that have been and are being  implemented in the football regulations just before the start of the new 2024/25 campaign.

Almería-born referee José Antonio Sánchez Villalobos, who in this season is going to make his debut as a referee in LaLiga Hypermotion, has been in charge of transmitting and explaining to the members of UD Almería the new regulations that the referees are going to apply.

These are some of the sections that are included:

Concussion substitution: In the Primera and Segunda Division of this season, the permanent additional substitution in case of concussion has been approved, subject to the Protocol included in the Laws of the Game. When the concussion substitution is used, the opposing team will automatically have the possibility of making one more substitution.

Substitute warm-up area: During the match, a maximum of 5 players per team accompanied by the conditioning coach may perform warm-up exercises on the bench side. Each team will do it in the half of the band where their bench is placed. This modification has been included in all national competitions.

Handball: Regarding the disciplinary sanction to be applied in plays involving sanctionable handballs, the change carried out last season in the assessment of handball that block a shot on goal is maintained. Until that moment, all of them were punished with a yellow card unless they avoided a clear scoring opportunity, which was punishable with a straight red card. It is understood that the former do not have to be considered a promising attack, so the refs will refrain from cautioning this type of foul.

Penalties: In the same way as in previous seasons, referees continue to be insisted on not sanctioning 'player-to-player contact,' but rather the sanction of a penalty must correspond to a clear and significant action of infringement by a defender, with a correlation between the cause and effect, with sufficient intensity to justify the sanction.

Recriminations against referees: The Spanish referees will offer, in important situations, a brief explanation to the captains to clarify the decision made on the pitch or the progress of the check that the VAR is carrying out in relation to that foul. The rest of the players cannot approach any member of the refereeing team showing disagreement with any of the decisions made.
