UD Almería’s very first shirt to feature in LaLiga Retro Match

The kit, to be worn against Racing de Santander, pays tribute to the jersey from 25 years ago when the Club was founded and will go on sale this Friday at the Stadium store as a limited edition

UD Almería’s 2001/2002 kit, the first used under the Club’s current official name and marking 25 years since its creation, will be celebrated in LaLiga’s first-ever Retro Matchday. It will be worn on Matchday 35 when UD Almería visit Racing de Santander.

Produced by Macron, this jersey is possibly the most special in the Club’s history, as it symbolically united two previously rival factions that, after coming together, reached professional football and maintained their league status thanks to Paco Luna’s iconic goal in a packed Almería derby against Polideportivo Ejido at the Juan Rojas stadium.

The Club’s former stadium was again central to the announcement of this retro shirt, echoing January 2001 when the merger of Almería CF and Poli Almería was announced. The kit was used in the 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 seasons, laying the foundations that have allowed the Club to become one of the most important in Spanish football.

The announcement features Esteban Navarro, the first skipper after the formation of UD Almería SAD and Paco Luna, who netted one of the most important goals in the Club’s history.

Despite its classic design, the Macron-made jersey stands out for its environmental commitment, crafted from eco-friendly recycled fibers and produced responsibly to ensure lightness, breathability and comfort without compromising quality or performance.

The commemorative 25th anniversary jersey will go on sale in the Club’s official store this Friday from 9am-2pm as a limited edition. If available, starting Monday the hours will be 9am-2pm and 3pm-6pm.

LaLiga will celebrate its first-ever Retro Matchday from 10-13 April, an unprecedented event in European professional football, where 38 clubs from LaLiga EA Sports and LaLiga Hypermotion will take the pitch in kits inspired by iconic editions from their past.

The referees will also wear a special design provided by the RFEF Technical Committee of Referees (CTA).
