Rubi: 'The faith of the team has been decisive in getting the point'
The UD Almería head coach was proud of his side for the fighting spirit shown at La Rosaleda Stadium until the last minute and pointed out: 'The fact that UD Almería scored was fair'
UD Almería head coach Rubi shared his post-match thoughts after the Andalusian derby against Málaga CF, in which they rescued a hard-fought point in the last minute. 'It was a nice match for the spectator, very intense. The two teams have given their all to get a good result. I'm very proud because it was a match that ended in despair due to different situations, but we kept faith until the last second.'
The Catalan gaffer argued: 'Although I understand that Málaga CF may be disappointed because they had the game controlled in the lead, I reckon that the fact that UD Almería scored was fair.'
The Rojiblancos' head coach continued with his analysis of the match and highlighted the importance of the equaliser: 'We believe the goal was really good because of the scenario, the difficulty there was in getting something out of here, because of how the game had turned out…. We came to try to win, but with everything we're behind in terms of victories, a draw keeps us undefeated for a long time and the team values it.'
Rubi commented on the strengths and weaknesses of the Indálicos in La Rosaleda, ensuring that the second half has been very positive: 'We started the game very well, after 20 seconds we had a one-on-one, but it's also true that it was difficult for us to keep it up at the beginning of the second half and in the last third we lacked a little more clarity in selecting the last shot on goal.'
Another of the topics addressed during the post-match assessment was the 12th Man factor that was experienced during the derby: 'I want to congratulate both fans, without a doubt Málaga CF have a large fan base, which means that you notice a very nice football atmosphere, even if they make us suffer. I'd like to thank our travelling fans for joining us, their presence was very noticeable.'
To conclude, the Vilassar de Mar native highlighted the competitive attitude of his footballers, which was key to equalising: 'You try to find solutions, gaps that the players can't see from the inside, changing some position; but more than the head coach's decisions it's been the team's faith, I guess it's been decisive in getting that point.'
