The UD Almería full-back hails 5 wins on the bounce but insists there is still more to come: 'There are 2 teams above us and we want to go after them.'
UD Almería are enjoying an excellent run of form, with 5 consecutive victories underlining the strength of the team's collective performances. Speaking to UDA Radio, Luna was keen to stress that the team's defensive solidity has been a whole-team effort: 'A clean sheet isn't just down to the defence; it's down to the whole team,' the full-back explained.
'The defence is about more than just 4 defenders and a goalkeeper. We're more compact as a team and we're staying closer together on the pitch. The midfielders are close to the back line, the wingers are helping out and the forwards are leading the press,' he added.
Luna believes the team's defensive improvement has been key to its recent success, with the win over Córdoba CF proving to be an important turning point. 'We're able to drop into a mid-to-low block, stop the opposition from creating chances and actually enjoy defending,' he said.
And the results speak for themselves. 5 wins on the bounce is no mean feat in a division where, as Luna points out, 'every game is decided by fine margins'. The UD Almería full-back reflected on the team's outstanding run of form, highlighting not only the results but also the different ways in which the side has found a way to win.
The comeback against Burgos CF was the latest example. 'The team never stopped pushing after we conceded,' he recalled.
The Zaragoza native also reflected on the message delivered at half-time, which set the tone for the second half: 'Let's give everything we've got, let's keep pushing and if the goals don't come, let it be because the ball doesn't want to go in, not because we've stopped fighting.'
There is certainly no sign of complacency. 'We're ambitious. There are 2 teams above us and we want to go after them. Anyone behind us who wants to catch us will have to keep pushing, because we're not going to ease off,' the defender insisted.
Next up is CD Leganés, but the 23-year-old is keen to ensure the team approaches the game on its own terms rather than becoming distracted by the prospect of making it 6 wins in a row: 'We must approach the game as if the 5 wins don't exist. It's another game, another 3 points and another win that we want to go out and get.'
