Koné starts on-pitch rehab as he speeds up recovery

The 24-year-old Malian centre-forward underwent surgery 3 months ago for the fracture-dislocation of his right ankle. UD Almería are back into the building with sights set on this weekend's trip to Madrid

UD Almería forward Ibrahima Koné has started on-pitch rehabilitation as he speeds up his recovery. The player spent three months on the treatment table following the surgery he had to undergo for the fracture-dislocation picked up in the friendly between the Malian squad against Uganda during the African Cup of Nations.

His recovery period was estimated between 5-6 months, yet the progress he is making is being really positive and the deadlines could be shortened as it has also happened with striker Luis Suárez and Marc Pubill.

The presence of Koné at the training base exercising on the grass has been the main highlight of this Wednesday's session. The squad are now fully focused on the preps for the Sunday's match against Real Madrid CF in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

The Rojiblancos are determined to boost the good vibes they got on the previous Matchday against Girona FC and with this objective in their minds, they have resumed training. Head coach Gaizka Garitano has had the presence of two UD Almería 'B' youngsters: central defender Paco Sanz and Almeria-born midfielder Marcos PeñaArnau Puigmal, who is recovering from an injury as well as César Montes, with some knee pain, are nursing their respective injuries and have been working out in the gym.
