1-1: Last-gasp Kaiky rescues a point against Cádiz CF

The Rojiblancos did not give up despite trailing 1-0 when they saw themselves reduced to 10 men. The Brazilian grabbed a dramatic equaliser in the 5th minute of injury time

Last’s goal at the death saw Kaiky rescue a deserved point after a 1-1 draw with Cádiz CF on Saturday evening. It was a highly contested encounter with long spells when balls were shelled into the areas from each flank. The hosts took the lead in the second half at the hands of Luis Hernández's opening goal, but the Rojiblancos did not give up throughout the entire game and in 90'+5, it was the Brazilian centre-back who, with an unstoppable thunderbolt from the edge of the box, rescued a vital point for UD Almeria.

As for the Starting XI, there were two changes to the side that lost 1-3 to Real Madrid CF on Matchday 2: Dion Lopy and Arnau Puigmal were handed out starting spots. Maximiano in goal, Akieme, Chumi, Édgar and Pubill defending behind holding midfielders Baba and Lopy, accompanying Luis Suárez, Embarba, Sergio Arribas and Puigmal in the attacking lines.

UD Almería began the game with great intensity trying to keep Cádiz CF under control who, with the unstinting support of their fans, went out onto the pitch with clear ideas, putting a lot of pressure on the Rojiblancos to get the ball out from the back effectively and with many crosses from wide areas. However, the Indálicos changed their shape with a better tactical game and regaining possession. They escaped that pressure thanks to their togetherness and Dion Lopy' skilled moves during the first period. Both Andalusian rivals reached the final thirds, but without creating dangerous situations. All square at the break.

Half-time 0-0

The second half started in the worst possible way for UD Almería since in the 51st minute, they were reduced to 10 men. Édgar received marching orders after being awarded two yellow cards. Following this setback, Cádiz CF created effective plays and kept possession so within 59 minutes Luis Hernández stabbed an effort at goal (1-0).

On the hour mark, Vicente Moreno's side were trailing, yet UD Almería never give up and began to set up chances until Kaiky managed to grab the dramatic last-minute leveller from the edge of the area to salvage a point against tough rivals. The defender who had came on after the dismissal of Édgar, became the UD Almería hero at the Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium in the first away fixture of the 2023/24 season.

Full-time 1-1
