Rodrigo Ely returns: 'We have the players to achieve Primera promotion'

Rodrigo Ely returned to the UDA Stadium press room to be officially presented again as a UD Almería player. The central defender was clear and straightforward when sharing his first impressions: 'I’ve met a team full of players feeling excited about the objective. Playing in Primera is the best for everyone: players, the Club and the staff. Everyone is on the same page and I believe we have the right players to make it happen.'

Reflecting on his decision to come back to the Club, Ely said: 'There are two types of players in the transfer window, those who go where they can and those who decide where they go. When you’re in a good place with good people and family and when the objectives are clear, like they are here at the Club, being where we’ve been not long ago, you arrive full of desire. It won’t be easy but together we'll achieve it.'

The 32-year-old also spoke about the qualities he brings to the team: 'I have discipline and a strong work ethic, which are essential to reaching our goals. Together, with a lot of sacrifice, we can achieve promotion. We have everything we need to succeed.' He added: 'I’ll help my team-mates day in and day out to be an example and a friend and offer support when needed. We, the veterans, are here to contribute not only on the pitch but also to the Club.'

The Brazilian knows the Club and the head coach well: 'I have a huge affection and respect for Rubi and I believe he’s the right person to lead us to Primera.'

On his football performance, the Lajesdo native was candid: 'Injuries happen. I’ve always understood football as giving everything, playing at full intensity. I’ve never held back. I push myself to the limit and take great care of myself to prevent injuries.'

Although the victory over AD Ceuta FC does not count towards his personal stats, he experienced the match first-hand: 'We played a very good match, especially spectacular in the first half. That’s the level we need to maintain over time. The squad has quality and we know that to get promoted, we must give 110%. I’ve felt really enthusiastic these first days and that makes me very optimistic.'
