Juan Villar: ‘We’re going to Valladolid with a positive mindset and the team spirit of bagging the 3 points’
The UD Almería striker and former Real Valladolid CF player, considers attacking and defensive efficiency to be key
Juan Villar has been the next UD Almeria player to catch up with the media and give his thoughts on the game against his former team and has classified it as not only ‘crucial’ but also ‘motivating.’ ‘It's a game that every player wants to play. Of course, we're going to go with a positive mindset but also the team spirit of bagging the three points. It's a vital game.’ In relation to its importance in the medium term, he pointed out ‘it’s clear that for us it’s an excellent opportunity because we’d take a huge step forward to meet the final objective if we won. We’re going with a little peace of mind after the results of the last Matchday. It’s true that there’s a tight margin for error but what we really want is to win. Our objective is to collect the three points,’ explained the striker in the press room at the Mediterraneo.
A tight promotion race is in store and Juan Villar has referred to the key to Saturday’s clash in Pucela, as the city of Valladolid is popularly called: ‘At this point in the season, all the teams are well aware of what’s at stake. We have to stick together, defend deeper and play our game. We must be successful in the two areas that will be the ones that decide the final result.’ Be that as it may, later there will be enough points and fixtures to think that this match is the decider: ‘Both teams have a lot at stake, I’d say fifty fifty. We’ve got a lot at stake. If we win we’ll take a big step forward and that’s essential; if they don’t win, they know that we’d open the gap. However, there are still points and big games keep on coming to consider this one in particular to be the decider.’
It’s been a while. The 33-year-old player will step on Valladolid's pitch again and he has commented ‘I’ve only played against them once and I didn't manage to score. The matches against the former sides are always special. Personally, they were my best years and I experienced very beautiful moments there. I left that historic club very happy, but now I’ll do my very best to help UD Almería win.’
