José Gomes: ‘We won with intelligence and great work’

The head coach emphasises that his team comply with the anticipated key points before the match to pull off a victory

‘It was a very important game, which we won with intelligence and great work’. This was Jose Gomes’ post-match reaction after UD Almería bagged all three points in the visit of Castellón to the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium. The head coach expanded his game analysis on the basis that the players did ‘really well’ by forcing the rivals ‘to push up front’, which allowed the Rojiblancos ‘to create vital spaces’ that led to goals.

This last comment was made by the Portuguese gaffer in the press conference prior to the match, in which he highlighted as key points ‘winning the second-ball situations and running in behind Castellón defence.’ On this matter, he added: ‘Whenever we’ve done that, we’ve caused danger.’

Meanwhile, despite the 3-1 comprehensive victory, Gomes pointed out an aspect that did not convince him regarding his team’s performance. In his humble opinion, the players had to ‘put more intensity in after 1-0 to score the second.’ However, this situation did not take away the satisfaction of winning.
