José Gomes: ‘Small details have determined who won this match’

The head coach states that both sides were evenly matched and highlights the need to convert current results into energy for the near future

After the UD Almería’s defeat in Palma de Mallorca, José Gomes shared his thought that ‘small details have determined who won this match.’ In his opinion, ‘both sides were evenly matched.’ The head coach also underlined that there were moments in which the Rojiblancos recovered their footballing essence ‘with good and longer plays.’

The Portuguese gaffer referred to the fixture as ‘a good football match’ that saw ‘two great teams going all out for a win.’ ‘There were moments with Mallorca playings better and some other, in which we looked stronger,’ he added.

Gomes reiterated his respect for the refereeing team and thanked the brief chat that he had with the match official after the final whistle. The coach did not hide that the possible penalty not awarded on Balliu ‘could have changed the story’ because shortly after, when Almería were superior through ‘passing between the lines and creating spaces,’ the penalty was conceded and the adversaries put themselves in front before half-time (1-0).

The fact that Mallorca went ahead in the opening 45 minutes had impact on the second half and the Lusitanian stressed ‘as I see it, they defended deeper after taking the lead and also produced pulsating counter-attacks.’

Looking to the future, José Gomes pointed out to the media a key to reverse the last poor results: ‘We must transform this suffering for the results into energy and strength because we have got a fight again coming up next weekend.’
