Perfect Matchday for UD Almería as they move into automatic promotion
The Rojiblancos climb up to second, close gap to current leaders Racing Santander and extend advantage over rivals
UD Almería emerged as the big winners of Matchday 32 in LaLiga Hypermotion after a resounding 5-1 victory over Real Sociedad 'B', combined with favourable results elsewhere in the promotion race.
UD Almería rounded off the weekend fixtures knowing their direct rivals had dropped points. Málaga CF were held to a 0–0 draw by CD Leganés, while CD Castellón and Deportivo de La Coruña also drew their respective matches. Meanwhile, UD Las Palmas lost to SD Eibar and leaders Racing de Santander were beaten by Real Zaragoza. The only other top-side win came from Burgos CF, who edged victory away against Real Valladolid.
With those results, UD Almería climb back into second place an automatic promotion spot and now sit just 1 point behind leaders Racing de Santander. At the same time, they have opened up gaps over the chasing pack: Deportivo trail by 2 points, Málaga CF by 3, Burgos CF by 5 and both CD Castellón and UD Las Palmas by 7.
The attacking numbers further underline their form. With 5 goals added this Matchday, the Indálicos become the league’s top scorers with 64 goals, while Sergio Arribas strengthens his grip on the pihichi title with 20 goals.
The season now enters its decisive phase, with everything still to play for. 10 match weeks remain, and the road ahead is demanding with fierce competition across the board. Head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia 'Rubi' continues to emphasise a game-by-game approach, focused on his own team, without dwelling on results elsewhere, whether good or bad.
As the Catalan warned before this set of fixtures, plenty of predictions will be torn up between now and the end of the campaign and that process is already underway.
