Newly-appointed head coach García Pimienta puts his squad through a full day of work as the players spend breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner together at the Club's training complex
UD Almería's players spent virtually the entire day at the Club's training complex on Thursday as they completed their first double training session of pre-season. Reporting at 7:45am and remaining on site until almost 10pm, García Pimienta's squad worked on their physical conditioning, tactical concepts and overall preparation as they began to build momentum ahead of the new campaign.
The new coaching staff gathered the squad early in the morning before everyone shared breakfast in the UDA Stadium dining area. The players then began with activation work in the gym before moving to the Anexo training ground, with time also set aside for individual meetings with members of the coaching staff.
Alongside a variety of ball drills, the squad also completed the first endurance fitness tests that are a hallmark of this stage of pre-season. After the morning session, the players returned for lunch before taking a short break ahead of the afternoon schedule.
The Indálicos reconvened at around 6pm, picking up where they had left off. After an afternoon snack to refuel and another activation session, the players returned to the pitch with the ball once again taking centre stage.
Rondos, small-sided games and a range of technical exercises filled the session, all under the watchful eye of Mr García Pimienta, who remained heavily involved throughout.
The day's main talking point was the sight of Marco Perović back on the training pitch. Although working individually after joining the group later than his team-mates, the forward has now begun his pre-season programme on the grass.
As previously announced, the Club's international players will be the last to report following their commitments with their national teams. Cipenga is expected to join the squad over the weekend of 25 July, while newly crowned UEFA European Under-19 champion Quim is scheduled to return at the beginning of next week.
UD Almería will round off the week with three more training sessions: a single work-out on Friday followed by another double session at the Anexo base on Saturday.
