Jon Morcillo: A sharp knife for UD Almería’s attack

UD Almería secure their second January recruit with the arrival of a direct, in-form winger set to make an immediate impact

UD Almería have announced Jon Morcillo as their second signing of the January transfer window, reinforcing the squad with an attacking profile that promises instant influence. The 27-year-old winger (1.83m) arrives from Albacete Balompié and signs until June, with an option to extend his stay for a further 4 seasons.

Morcillo is a player UD Almería know quite well, having already felt his impact last season. A fast, skillful and direct wide attacker, he joins the Rojiblancos in peak condition after featuring in every match for Albacete BP this campaign, contributing 5 goals and 3 assists so far.

The new signing will wear red and white jersey for the remainder of this season and potentially the next 4, adding the 'bite' that head coach Rubi has openly demanded in recent weeks. His credentials were on display last year at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium, where he delivered a standout performance against UD Almería. During that season, Morcillo produced impressive numbers for a winger, registering 8 goals and 6 assists.

A product of Athletic Club Bilbao’Lezama Academy, Morcillo enjoyed a precocious development, playing a key role in the youth ranks and helping secure promotion to the Segunda. He later went on to compete for two seasons in LaLiga, before a loan spell at Real Valladolid CF and a subsequent return to Athletic Club to continue at the top level.

Following that chapter, Morcillo became an important figure at SD Amorebieta in the Segunda, a level at which he has continued to perform with authority, both last season and during the current campaign with Albacete Balompié, before now taking on a new challenge with UD Almería.
