UD Almería Women forward Jessi wins gold medal at 2023 European Games

UD Almería Women forward Jessica Higueras, aka Jessi, and her Spain Soccer Beach team-mates have been crowned European champions this Saturday with the Spanish Beach Soccer Team at the 2023 European Games that was held in Krakow (Poland). Spain knocked out other rivals on the road to progress into the final against Ukraine. 

 

It was expected to be a quite tough game and it was not until the penalty shootout that it was decided who would win the gold medal. The two national teams scored the goals in the last minutes of the last part of regulation time, from there, the Ukrainians took the lead with just over a minute to go, however, Spain did not give up and thanks to an equaliser by link-up duo Jessi and Lorena with 30 seconds to go, extra time was reached, when Spain could have been able to clinch the victory but their attempt crashed into the post with 10 seconds remaining to go to penalties. 

 

Finally, after the penalty shootout, UD Almería Women player Jessi and her team-mates became champs to get the gold medal of the 2023 European Games.
